Below are some quick photographs of our new salad crop. The slugs ate our last lot that we planted out after the weather got better- the high amount of rain seemed to make the slugs come out more! Therefore we have started again with a few new rows of Kopfsalat to try. Also we have put down some things to deter the Slugs. I have heard that egg shells crushed up and scattered around the raised beds can deter Slugs as they do not like the feel of sliding over the gritty/sharp surface – we shall give it a go! Also, we have made a beer bottle catcher and put it in the allotment in the hope of reducing our slug population – the slugs smell the beer fall into the bottle and then cannot get out. Slug love beer so we are hoping this works – fingers crossed!
