Update on the veg garden…

Have been busy the last week doing lots of bits and pieces in and out of the garden so thought I would give you a quick update of how we are getting along….

The Peas are doing amazingly! They have gone from strength to strength. I have not had to do too much work with them – just put up some canes and twine at start to support them as they grow. They have flowered and are now producing an abundance of pea pods. The small pods I am picking and eating raw in salads and when in garden and the more established pods we are leaving to grow on to full size. I got these Peas as seeds from Thompson and Morgan along with a number of other seeds. They grew brilliantly and even survived a slug raid! If you want some similar easy to care for peas take a look at Thompson and Morgans website http://www.thompson-morgan.com/. They also have some good blogs and tips there too.

I have transferred some of our stronger lettuces back out to the garden in a different area – hoping that this time the slugs will not get them! However, I have kept back 3 lettuces in pots on the windowsill as back up just in case. The Rocket and mixed salad leaves are growing well and great to pick at in the windowsill for quick salads.

A few pictures of our Alpine Strawberries too – there are never enough for a dessert as I always eat them as I go past!

More updates and photos soon including herbs, mange-tout and how the chickens are getting on! Hope you are enjoying the summer and smallholding season, let me know what you think of the blog and please feel free to let me know how you are getting on with growing your own!

Thankyou Katy, The Good Life In Practice xx
